1. EU road freight:

European road freight rates surged through Q3, but this was far from a simple seasonal spike. It was the result of deep structural pressures coming to a head.

Data revealed a telling story: while load volumes skyrocketed on key routes (e.g., a 57% YoY increase from France to Spain), carrier interest dropped simultaneously. This isn't a demand problem; it's a supply collapse. With over 426,000 driver vacancies, the industry's human capital challenge is directly translating into higher costs and limited availability. The EU Mobility Package continues to increase operational complexity. Furthermore, the end of EU toll exemptions for trucks under 7.5 tonnes in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands has added a new layer of cost, pushing more freight onto an already strained heavier vehicle fleet.

3. The US-China relations:

On October 30, the U.S. and China announced a temporary trade deal, lowering tariffs and suspending key shipping fees. The agreement provides tangible, though temporary, relief. The average tariff was lowered from 57% to 47%, and additional port and shipping fees were suspended, directly reducing maritime logistics costs. China reopened exports of rare-earth minerals (gallium, germanium, graphite), stabilizing supply chains for EVs, electronics, and defense and is committed to importing millions of metric tons of U.S. soybeans, revitalizing that trade lane.
